Football Update

Lucas played both Nose Guard on Defense and Left Guard on Offense during a match-up with the J.V. team a few weeks ago. The coaches kept him in for most of the game and he did very well. We were really proud of his strong effort- especially since there are 57 boys on the Freshman team and he has a lot of competition for his positions.

Well, as what sometimes happens when one is involved in contact sports, Lucas came away with a sore elbow. The next day the whole area around the elbow became swollen and stiff. With approval from our insurance company, we went straight to a bone and joint specialist. They took an x-ray. Nothing broken, no visible fracture, but it was quite evident to them that the swelling needed to be addressed. So an MRI was scheduled. In the meantime, they made a "half-cast" for the bottom of the arm only. That way he can easily remove it for bathing and yet, once wrapped, it is still quite firm.

We find out the results of the MRI this afternoon. His elbow and arm have been feeling better as each day passes, so we're hoping it was a strain or bruising (I'm not very good with proper medical terminology!) and not a tiny fracture that the x-ray did not pick up. The school trainer is meeting us there for the appointment so we will have someone who can "talk the talk" to help us determine what is best for Lucas.

I wanted a photo of him with the cast, so Lucas willingly obliged by posing- until I said "ready"- and then he moved:

(Will I never learn?)

Oh, you are soooooooooo funny.

Thank you. Was that so much trouble?

I'm Not Normally A Purple Person

so I wasn't sure where I was going to display this embroidered cloth that came to me after ProYiaYia, Basil's grandmother, passed on a few years ago. This was one of her pieces she had hand-embroidered as a young woman. I had put it in the china cabinet along with the other tablecloths and tablerunners and, essentially, out of sight, out of mind. So when I was changing out the kitchen tablecloth recently and was reminded of it, I became determined to use it- and boy, am I glad I did. The colors are beautiful! (And doesn't it look great with the amber vase I already had?)
